Balvanera is a different, active and changing neighbourhood. It has a high population density and lots of traffic. Many students for all over the country walk by it´s streets every day to study in the different universities of the area.
This neighborhood has its own personality, it’s full of students and it’s a mix of cultures: jewishs, koreans, chinese and peruvian live here.
The main streets of Balvanera are: Rivadavia Avenue, (which crosses the entire city from East to West), Corrientes Avenue (which is the main thoroughfare of commerce and entertainment in Buenos Aires) and Cordoba Avenue (that divides the neighbourhoods of Recoleta and Balvanera).
Important sites:
-National Congress: The kilómetro cero reference, from which all argentine routes count the distance to Buenos Aires and is marked by a monolith in Plaza Congreso.
-Plaza Miserere: Usually taken up by illegal peddlers, people queuing for their bus, and preachers of all stripes.
