Zoe and Joshua arrived from St Albans (a city near London) to Buenos Aires to take the CELTA course (to teach English) at the Internation House institute in Belgrano.

They visited Patricia’s home in Colegiales and they loved it, so they are staying there!

It’s bound to happen eventually. At one point or another, everyone makes a humiliating mistake while speaking Spanish. But whether you’re aware that you have committed such an error is another question entirely.

The following are some of my favorites that I have heard about, committed myself or overheard in my days here in Argentina. Hopefully all you readers out there can learn from these mistakes and avoid committing these errors yourselves!

Here we go:

Intended word: remera (t-shirt)
Intended statement: I would like that T-shirt over there please.
What was said: “Quisiera la ramera verde ahí por favor .”
Translation: I would like the green whore over there please.
Conclusion: Intergalactic hussies.

Intended word: vergüenza (embarrassed)
Intended statement: I was so embarrassed.
What was said: “Yo tenía mucho embarazada .”
Translation: I was very pregnant.
Conclusion: Ouch, we’ve all heard of this one. One of the most common beginner mistakes using the logic, “Just put an O or an A at the end of the English word you want to say and maybe it will be close” technique. Clearly, this doesn’t always work out for the best.

Intended word: pera (pear)
Intended statement: I would like 5 pears please.
What was said: “Me gustaría 5 perras por favor .”
Translation: I would like 5 bitches please.
Conclusion: The rolling of the R, when used unnecessarily, could win you a harem.

Liz llegó desde Londres para realizar un curso para ser profesora de inglés.

De todos los barrios, eligió Belgrano.

De todas las habitaciones, eligió la de Sol.

¿Por qué? Porque está cerca del instituto donde tomará el curso y porque Sol no habla ingles y Liz quiere “forzarse” a hablar español.

Macala llegó desde Mansfield (Estados Unidos) hablando un perfecto español, directo a la casa de Romina en Recoleta.

Nicola llegó desde HEREFORD ( Inglaterra) directo a Belgrano, más precisamente a la casa de Sol.

Diana llegó para realizar trabaja voluntario, aprender a bailar el tango y mejorar su español.

Esta inglesa, vino directo desde Eastbourne a las casa de Cirstina P en Palermo, sin escalas.

Kyle llegó desde Estados Unidos para enseñar ingles y aprender español.

Decidió alojarse en la casa de Sol en Belgrano, donde sí o sí va a aprender español.

Lisa llegó desde la gran manzana para estudiar español en la París de Sudamérica (un nombre que Buenos Aires se ha ganado).

Eligió vivir en la casa de

Rosalía en Palermo.

Miri viene desde Londres para estudiar un mes español en Buenos Aires.

Una habitación en Palermo, esa fue su opción.

Parece que la casa de Cecilia cumplió con sus expectativas =)

Zara, esta inglesa que decidió alojarse en una de nuestras habitaciones en Palermo, realiza documentales.
